The Serbian National Register of Internet Domain Names would like to inform the Internet users that the process of migrating from the .yu domain to the new national .rs domain is entering its final phase.

Until 10 September 2008, present .yu domain owners have the priority when registering the same .rs domain names which were reserved for them. The Priority right expires on 10 September 2008 at noon. All unused reservations of .rs domains will become available to the general public on 15 September 2008 at noon.

In reality that means that if a company which has a registered www.companyname.co.yu domain does not use its Priority right to register www.companyname.co.rs until 10 September 2008, then anyone can register www.companyname.co.rs as of 15 September 2008. In this way, the company risks that someone else freely registers this domain and creates a site with the address www.companyname.co.rs, or uses е-mail addresses ending in @companyname.co.rs.

RNIDS would also like to inform the general public that it would be possible to renew the present .yu domain registrations from 3 November 2008 to 2 March 2009. After this term, the .yu domains which have not been renewed will be deactivated and will stop functioning on the Internet. In practice that means that if a company does not use the possibility to renew the registration of its www.companyname.co.yu domain until 2 March 2009, its Website and electronic mail will stop functioning on the Internet, as of that day. The additional term for renewing the .yu domain registrations starts on 3 March 2009 and ends on 30 April 2009. If the .yu domain is renewed within the additional term, it will be reactivated on the Internet.

The remaining .yu domains, which are not renewed within the specified time period, will be permanently deleted from the register on 4 May 2009. Maintaining the .yu domain register and propagating information on .yu domains on the Internet will cease on 30 September 2009, regardless of the renewal date. On the very day, all .yu domains will stop functioning on the Internet!
