New Zealand’s Domain Name Commissioner has put out a call for experts and mediators to handle cases that arise in the .nz domain name disputes.

Under the .nz Dispute Resolution Service (DRS), when an expert is assigned to a case, he or she must evaluate and prepare a written decision within a set timeframe. The decision is binding on both parties to the dispute and will be published in full on the Domain Name Commission’s website.

Each expert will be assigned by rotation to a case, and can expect to handle up to four cases a year, with a fixed remuneration of NZ$1,800 (excl GST) per case.

For mediators, under the .nz DRS, mediation is the first tier of dispute resolution, and involves the mediator facilitating telephone (and email) mediation between parties to a domain name dispute within a set timeframe.

Each mediator will be assigned by rotation to a dispute, and can expect to handle up to five disputes a year, with a fixed remuneration of $1,400 (excl GST) per dispute.

The New Zealand DRS is based on the Nominet’s system for .uk that has been in place for a number of years.
