Norid, the ccTLD registry for .no (Norway) announced this week there were now 400,000 registrations of .no domain names, increasing tenfold in ten years. Today there are 400,331 domain names registered.
As registrations for .no rapidly increase, Norid has found that even though many Norwegian companies also register the .com and .net versions of their domain names, more than nine out of ten consider the .no address the most important for marketing purposes. This makes perfect sense when your website, for example, is aimed directly at Norwegian citizens and companies.
The registration of .no domain names commenced in the early eighties and 1,000 domain names were registered in 1995 and 250,000 in 2005. And Norid expect this rapid growth to continue.
Norid has found .no has one of the highest renewal rates in the world, with around 95 per cent of domain names renewed each year. They are also one of the safest with the McAfee Site Advisor report ranking .no as one of the safest ccTLDs or gTLDs in the world.
