As directed by ICANN’s Board in a recent resolution, the Intellectual Property Constituency (IPC) has formed an Implementation Recommendation Team (IRT). Domain Directors, an auDA and ICANN accredited registrar, had an impressive victory over auDA, the regulator for the “.au” domain space, in the Supreme Court of Queensland on Friday 20 March 2009. auDA had given an undertaking to reinstate a domain name that it had unilaterally deleted, and the Court ruled that auDA had to pay a significant part of Domain Directors legal costs as a result of auDA’s actions.

A public comment period has opened today for 30 days on the topic of travel support.
Last year, ICANN created travel procedures to clarify which members of the ICANN community were to receive travel support for that fiscal year (2009). At the same time, it was announced that they would be reviewed after the first year of use. … more

The biggest ccTLD sale of the year, flatrate.de, was the biggest sale of last week, selling for €160,000 (US$200,000) reports Domain Name Journal. The next four top sellers for the week were all .com sales, although none broke six figures. Claim.com was second, selling for $80,000 and RodeoDrive.com third selling for $60,000. … more

In a survey of members on the transition to IPv6, the Internet Society (ISOC) found the main driver for moving to Internet Protocol version 6 (IPv6) was customer demand. In a study of the operational characteristics of IPv6 in its organisation members’ networks, ISOC found that while customer pressure motivated IPv6 deployment, specific business-case drivers did not yet exist. … more

The difficulty African nations have in managing their own ccTLDs was a focus for discussions at the Africa Telecommunications Union meeting held in Mauritius this week, attended by regulators and ccTLD managers according to Computerworld Kenya.
