.NL Registrar Association On The Way
A registrar association for the .NL ccTLD is in the process of being established with SIDN, the registry, announcing that significant progress has been made.
The intention is that the registrar association should take up the role of the now defunct Council of Registrars, thus satisfying the general wish for a formal channel of communication between SIDN and the registrar community.
Management consultant Willem van Waveren presented a proposal for creation of the registrar association at the SIDN Contact Day on 4 November 2010. However, everything went quiet for quite some time after that. In his presentation, Van Waveren indicated that the proposal would require approval by SIDN’s Supervisory Board. That was forthcoming at the end of 2010, but the process then reached a temporary impasse, due to lack of consensus amongst the stakeholder groups regarding a number of fundamental issues.
The log jam was broken at a meeting involving the initiative group, SIDN and the Supervisory Board on Tuesday 15 February. It is anticipated that the process can shortly be brought to a conclusion. All registrars will be informed about the plans as soon as they take shape.
