Nominet Releases 79 More Uncontested .UK Short Domains

Nominet logoNominet released 79 uncontested .UK short domains Wednesday following the close of the Unregistered Rights Sunrise this week. This release follows the closure of the IP rights validation period of the Registered Rights Sunrise phase on 31 January 2011 and 99 uncontested domains were registered on 7 February 2011.

The short domain names were part of the 47,816 one- and two-character domains that Nominet have flagged for release. Contested domain names, where there is more than one applicant, will be auctioned, with proceeds going to the Nominet Trust, an independently run charity focused on increasing access, safety and education on Internet issues.

The auctions for contested domains from the Registered Rights Sunrise phase will take place on 15 March 2011.

The ‘Sunrise’ period commenced on 1 December last year with trade mark rights holders able to apply until 17 January for a domain that matches their trade mark.

Following the close of the Unregistered Rights Sunrise phase, Nominet will launch a landrush phase, including a list of the domain names available, on 18 April.
