ICANN is moving ahead quickly with its initial evaluations of applications for generic Top Level Domains and last week announced 909 applications have now passed, meaning they are almost halfway through the evaluation process.
At the time of the Big Reveal last June, there were 1930 Applications For 1409 gTLDs. To date there have been 89 withdrawals, the latest being the application by Straat for .movie, who The Domains report applied for 13 gTLDs.
In the last week, there were 90 applications that passed Initial Evaluation and two failures, according to Domain Incite.
According to Domain Incite’s report, “the two applications that failed to achieve passing scores are Commercial Connect’s .shop and .supersport, a dot-brand filed by a South African television company. Both are eligible for extended evaluation.”
“Commercial Connect is the first applicant to fail to achieve a passing score on its technical evaluation.”
There have also been 11 applications that are eligible for extended evaluation.
The next lot of Initial Evaluation results will be published on 3 July.
