Registration numbers for .FR domain names rose 18 per cent in 2010, making it one of the fastest growing ccTLDs in the world according to the 2010 annual report for the French registry.
AFNIC was appointed as the registry for the .FR ccTLD by the French government, and so is now required to submit its annual report to the min charge of Electronic Communications. The report covers all of AFNIC’s business activities for 2010, and provides detailed explanations on how AFNIC met its commitments during the previous year.
Other highlights from 2010 include:
- the opening of .FR domain names for French citizens living abroad
- signing of .FR with DNSSEC
- 50% of the profits from the previous year have been reinvested by AFNIC in developing the internet and innovation.
